Are Hedgehogs Dangerous?

Are Hedgehogs Dangerous Hedgehogs are some of the most adorable pets in the world! They have huge, cobalt-black eyes, round little faces, and they’re covered in spines that look like they belong on a cuddly toy.

So it’s completely understandable why people would want to keep a hedgehog as a pet, and fortunately, they’re fairly easy to care for once you know what you’re doing. But there are some important things to consider before you decide to keep a hedgehog.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Owning a Hedgehog

DO:

    • Have plenty of space for your hedgehog to move around

    • Give plenty of attention- hedgehogs can be very friendly when given consistent amounts of attention

    • Provide a variety of treats- hay, fruits and vegetables, and specially-formulated hedgehog food

DON’T:

    • Let your hedgehog roam freely- hedgehogs are wild animals and need to be kept in a securely-covered tank

    • Play with your hedgehogs without protective gloves- while they may not seem dangerous, they can give a nasty bite if mishandled

    • Feed your hedgehog human food- human food can be bad for their digestive system, so stick to specially-formulated food

Are Hedgehogs Dangerous?

The answer to this question is: not really. Hedgehogs may not seem threatening, but they are still wild animals and can become aggressive when feeling threatened. They have small, sharp teeth and can give a nasty bite if mishandled.

It is always important to exercise caution when dealing with your pet hedgehog. Wear gloves when you handle them and make sure to keep them in a securely-covered tank. And most importantly, give them plenty of love and attention!

It may take some time and patience, but in the end, you will be rewarded with a wonderful companion – and memories that will last a lifetime!
