Types of Birds
Birds are a diverse group of animals found all over the world, but how many types of birds actually exist? Estimates range from 9,000 to 10,000 species across the globe and many species can only be found in a single place. Here are just a few of the types of birds found around the world:
Songbirds
Songbirds are the most common type of bird in the world, with over 5,000 known species. They are small to medium-sized birds, usually characterized by their melodic singing. Some notable examples are the Northern Cardinals, American Robins, and Eastern Bluebirds.
Water Birds
- Water birds live near bodies of water and have adapted to their environment. They have waterproof feathers and webbed feet to help them navigate the water. Common water birds include ducks, geese, and swans.
Game Birds
Game birds are hunted for sport or food and are usually found in wooded areas. Common game birds include grouses, pheasants, and quails.
