How Old Are Geckos

How Old Are Geckos?

How Old Are Geckos are one of the oldest species of lizards dating back over 200 million years. As long as they were around they have grown in popularity and are now a favorite pet lizard. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how old geckos can get and what they need to do to stay healthy in their long life.

Geckos can live up to 10 years in captivity and longer in the wild. When kept as animals, the lifespan of a gecko can be divided in three stages:

    • Juvenile: During their juvenile years (up to 6 months), geckos grow very quickly due to a fast metabolism. During this time, it is important to make sure they are fed proper and nutritious food to ensure a healthy development.

    • Maturity: From 6 months to 3 years, geckos reach maturity. This period is when they reach much of their size and weight, which can be up to 4” long and 16-30 grams in weight. During this time, they need all their nutritional needs to be met and they’ll look their healthiest.

    • Senior: As geckos start to get older, they tend to slow down and become less active. They need less food and require a more balanced diet. Supplements can also help them in times of need.

To help geckos live longer and to ensure they’re around for their full 10 years, there are some things you should do. First, make sure the temperature in their environment is kept at the correct levels and their habitat is kept clean. Additionally, a varied and balanced diet is essential for their health and wellbeing. Lastly, providing them with proper supplementation when needed can also be helpful.

Overall, geckos are amazing creatures that can live up to 10 years in captivity. They need a proper balanced diet, a healthy environment and occasional supplementation to ensure they are in their peak health throughout the years. With proper care and attention, they can make great pets that can live long and healthy lives.
