How to Deter Geckos
It’s not uncommon for geckos to share your living space with you, but if having them there isn’t your idea of a good time, here are some ways to keep them away.
Keep Things Clean
Geckos are attracted to food sources, so making sure your kitchen and dining areas are always clean will help in deterring them. Be sure not to leave any food out, and keep the garbage empty and sealed.
Check Where You Put Things
Geckos like to hide in small, dark places, so checking the places where you store any boxes, clothes, books and other materials is a smart preventive measure. Especially if you plan on placing something in a storage container, make sure it doesn’t already have a gecko living inside.
Use Repellents
Using a repellent such as citrus-scented sprays or mothballs near potential gecko entry points like windows and doorways can help keep them out of your home.
Make Your Home Unappealing
Though geckos don’t necessarily prefer one environment over another, certain attributes like wrong lighting, plenty of air flow or even certain sounds can help repel them.
- Utilize bright lights or leave the living room lamp on at night.
- Keep the windows open to promote air flow.
- Play music or leave a small radio on to keep them away.
If these methods aren’t effective, consider an ultrasonic repellent to help get the Geckos out of your living space for good.
