what temperature do bearded dragons need

Bearded Dragon Temperature Requirements

Bearded dragons, or Pogona vitticeps, are native to Australia and require specific temperatures to stay healthy.

correct temperatures

Bearded dragons need two different temperatures: a heat source and a basking spot. The basking spot should be between 95°F and 110°F, whatever temperature is most comfortable for your dragon. The temperature should be monitored with a thermometer, which should be placed close to the basking spot for an accurate reading.

The area surrounding the basking spot should be 86°F to 88°F. This can be achieved with an overhead light and/or a ceramic heater.

nighttime temperatures

At night, when dragons are sleeping, it is important to make sure that the temperature does not drop too low. The temperature should not go lower than 75°F, although it is best if it stays between 82°F and 86°F.

humidity

Bearded dragons need an environmental humidity level of 30-45%. This can be hard to achieve in all areas, as some parts of the country may be too dry. To help maintain this level, misting is recommended, in addition to fogging the cage.

key points

To help ensure your bearded dragon stays healthy, follow these key points:

  • Basking spot temperature: 95°F – 110°F
  • Ambient temperature: 86°F – 88°F
  • Nighttime temperature: 75°F – 86°F
  • Humidity level: 30-45%
  • Monitor temperatures using a thermometer placed close to the basking spot
  • Misting and fogging may be necessary depending on the local environment

By following these guidelines and monitoring temperatures regularly, your bearded dragon will remain healthy and happy.
